I’m sure you’ve been there. I know I’ve been there. We’ve all been there.
Dirty sheets, crying child, and exhausted mom (sometimes dad too) that come from a wee hours of the morning child puking or bedwetting incident and subsequent nighttime sheet change.
Enter what I am calling Calamus Mom Hack #1: Nighttime Sheet Change Made Easy
When we were preparing for our first child to be born, our midwife told us to make the bed a certain way to that after the baby was born, they could strip the sheets off the bed, and I would have a freshly made bed without having to remake the bed.
It only took five years of motherhood and potty training two children before I realized I could do the same sort of thing with the children’s beds all the time. Now when a wee hours of the morning incident occurs, I can have the bed sleep ready in under twenty seconds, thanks to this little trick.
Ready to make nighttime parenting easier?
Good. Now go gather your supplies: Two sets of sheets. Two mattress protectors. (These are our family’s favorite Mattress Protector)
Step 1: Make the bed like normal minus the comforter. Put on one Mattress Protector, followed by a fitted sheet, and topped with a top sheet.
Step 2: Repeat step one with the other mattress protector and sheets.
Step 3: Add the comforter, quilt, pillow, and all the favorite stuffed animals and dollies.
Next time you are awakened to a crying child and soiled sheet, simply pull the top layers of bedding off to reveal nice clean sheets ready for your little one. No more digging in the linen closet at 3 a.m. and waking the rest of the household.
I LOVE THIS!! Why did I never think of this! I hate having to change sheets in the middle of the night. I get a big fat F for night time parenting. I’m telling ya, I’m crying more than the child. My kids are sick right now, tomorrow first thing I’m making beds!
I think mommy crying during nighttime bedding changes is perfectly normal. Hope your kiddos are all feeling better now!
You are one smart mommie!
You brought back many memories. I did this sortof’ I kept half sheets on the center of the bed, like they do in the hospital…or they used to, anyway…with an old shower curtain or plastic table cloth under the top half sheet so easy to remove during the wee hours. So helpful for those having trouble with middle of the night bed wetters. God
is Good. All the time.
That was a good idea too. I bet you have a lot of wise tricks you could teach me!
