It is imperative that we be disciplined by the Father so that we can become like Christ if we are to disciple others.
“They [human fathers] disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:10-11 (brackets added)
Like we teach our children the right way to live through rules, our Heavenly Father disciplines us through his commandments for our own well-being. It is through the discipline of following his instructions that we learn to submit our will to his.
